I was given an assignment on research a few days ago. I choose this very hot topic of debate "Recession In Bollywood" (I don't like the name Bollywood, should call it indian cinema)

I feel failure of big films like Delhi 6, Chandni Chowk To China, Billu Barber has proved that the industry is hit by the recession.

So, after a lot of research, i have a conclusion....
It is not just the recession which is killing, but it is the stars who are killing.
Aamir Khan is the only star who is truely a thinking actor. Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan. All these people just want to work. Because they are good in this profession, they want to work in it. But, they need to understand that scripts should be the king. They should be thinking actors. They should think that what the audience wants, are we offering them that? Or are we just working for the sake of working.

Everytime you can't be lucky enough. The directors are getting a tough time nowadays. But, i feel writers are still the most underpaid people in the industry. They should be given an importance because today content is the king. And the content is provided by the producer, director, actor and writer, offcourse the process also includes many other people. But, these four are the primary people. So, why everytime writers are ignored?

And moreover, i feel the recent failure of films is also led by the debacle of Chandni Chowk To China, people had so high expectations and critics being too critical about the movie made it a flop. This was followed by many more beautifully made film like Luck By Chance, moderately well made Victory being flops as audience was disappointed by CCTC. Although, it was followed by the saviours Raaz 2, Dev D and Slumdog Millionaire (The only three successes so far). Delhi 6 was too bold for people in India. Billu lacked the touch the director usually gives.
Many more films released in between and lasted for a week and became flops and disasters.

Now, to ignite the fire more, the producer/multiplex issue has evolved.

But, the real thing is if the content will be good, audience will definitely come and watch films.
I should also get in another finding after my research that December was the best month for bollywood. It brought in Two biggest films Ghajini (All Time Blockbuster) and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (Blockbuster). So, if good films are made, they are meant to work for sure.

Hoping that the industry will be enlightened again with hits and more than that good piece of cinema.

Take Care.
